Apple is usually pretty good about keeping a lid on new products
before the official launch, but this time there have been a bunch of
leaks that give us a pretty good picture of what to expect on Tuesday.
Apple itself was the source of one leak, when they released the ninth
beta version of iTunes 10.5 with menu options that included an iPhone
4S. Apple quickly pulled the page once it was discovered, but that's
like trying to unscramble an egg. Luckily there is a screenshot.
Radio Shack was next, with references in their corporate inventory
lists to several different iPhone 4S and 5 models for Verizon, AT&T
and Sprint. Again, we thank the resourceful person who took a quick
screenshot to prove it.
Finally, Cincinnati Bell really screwed up when they showed a bunch
of iPhone 5 and 4S models on their cellphone selection web page,
including a 32GB iPhone 5 with 4G connectivity and an 8MP camera for a
cool $640. At the other end of the scale, they had a 3G 16GB iPhone 4S
listed for $99 after a $300 rebate.
Whether any of this actually pans out won't be clear until Tuesday,
and perhaps Apple has deliberately orchestrated these leaks to throw
websites like Dvice off the trail. After all, it wouldn't be the first
time Apple made some questionable moves to keep a new product secret.
